Handle and Hole Improvement by Using New Corner Cutting Subdivision Scheme with Tension

چکیده
The recently developed Doubly Linked Face List (DLFL) structure introduces a powerful modeling paradigm that allows users to alternatively apply topological change operations and subdivision operations on mesh structure. Moreover, the DLFL is topologically robust in the sense that it always guarantees valid 2-manifold surfaces. In this paper, we further study the relationship between DLFL structure and subdivision algorithms. The paper has three contributions. First, we develop a new corner cutting scheme, which provides a tension parameter to control the shape of subdivided surface. Second, we develop a careful and efficient algorithm for our corner cutting scheme on the DLFL structure that uses only the basic operations provided by the DLFL structure. This implementation ensures that our new corner cutting scheme preserves topological robustness. The comparative study shows that the corner cutting schemes create better handles and holes than CatmullClark scheme.

A New Corner cutting Scheme with tension and Handle-Face Reconstruction
A recently developed topological mesh modeling approach allows users to change topology of orientable 2-manifold meshes and to create unusual faces. Handle-faces are one of such faces that are commonly created during topology changes. This paper shows that vertex insertion and corner cutting subdivision schemes can effectively be used to reconstruct handle-faces. These reconstructions effective...
متن کاملHermite Subdivision Schemes and Taylor Polynomials
We propose a general study of the convergence of a Hermite subdivision scheme H of degree d > 0 in dimension 1. This is done by linking Hermite subdivision schemes and Taylor polynomials and by associating a so-called Taylor subdivision (vector) scheme S. The main point of investigation is a spectral condition. If the subdivision scheme of the finite differences of S is contractive, then S is C...
متن کاملN-Sided Hole Filling and Vertex Blending Using Subdivision Surfaces
To fill an N-sided hole on a NURBS surface and to blend a corner formed by NURBS surfaces, we propose a regular N-sided open uniform quadratic subdivision surface derived by applying the open uniform quadratic subdivision scheme to a regular N-sided control mesh which is confined to the hole or to the region of the vertex blend. Boundary conditions such as C and G-continuity required for the ho...
متن کاملExperimental Study of the Cutting Parameters Effect on Hole Making Processes in Hardened Steel
Hardened steels are commonly used in wide areas of technologies and industries. In respect of poor machinability of these steels and requirement of expensive cutting tools, study of machining economy is a matter of importance. Thus the present study deals with the economic considerations of various hole making processes. For this purpose, the hard steel samples were machined by conventional dri...
متن کاملde Rham Transform of a Hermite Subdivision Scheme
For a Hermite subdivision scheme H of degree d, we define a spectral condition. We have already proved that if it is fulfilled, then there exists an associated affine subdivision scheme S. Moreover, if T is the subdivision matrix of the first difference process ∆S, if the spectral radius ρ(T ) is less than 1, then S is C0 and H is Cd. Generalizing the de Rham corner cutting, from every Hermite ...
